EDUCATIONAL COURSES
Secondary Course (from 10th year)
The Secondary Course consists of three levels, each corresponding to one academic year.
Specialized music education aims to develop young students' artistic vocation, promoting solid learning that enables them to enter the artistic job market after completing secondary education or to pursue higher education studies.
There are three branches of the Secondary Course at CMSM: Secondary Instrumental Studies, Secondary Music Theory, and Secondary Composition.
Admission to Secondary Instrumental Studies for external students requires passing the Secondary admission exams in Music Theory (students may be exempt if they present a 5º Grau certificate in Music Theory) and Instrumental Performance.
Internal students are exempt from the Music Theory exam if they have passed 5º Grau. They are also exempt from the Instrumental Performance exam if they have obtained a minimum grade of 14 in the global Instrumental Performance assessment.
Admission to Secondary Music Theory requires passing the Secondary admission exams in Music Theory (students who have completed Level 5º Grau with a minimum grade of 14 in Music Theory are exempt) and Vocal Education (students who have completed Level 5º Grau with a minimum grade of 14 in Choir are exempt).
Admission to Secondary Composition requires passing the Secondary admission exam in Music Theory (students who have completed Level 5º Grau with a minimum grade of 14 in Music Theory are exempt).
Students wishing to register for the secondary admission exam must do so according to the CMSM activity plan. The first exam session takes place in July, with additional sessions possibly occurring until December.
COORDINATED SYSTEM
The Coordinated System follows a protocol between a general secondary school and a specialized artistic education school. The general secondary school is responsible for core curriculum subjects (Portuguese, Foreign Language, Philosophy, and Physical Education), while the specialized school provides the artistic education components.
Classes take place in two separate institutions simultaneously. Since this system is fully funded by the Ministry of Education, students are exempt from tuition fees. However, if they do not secure a funded spot, they may enroll in this system as self-financed students.
In this system, attending all artistic curriculum subjects is mandatory.
SUPPLEMENTARY SYSTEM
In the Supplementary System, specialized music training is independent of any vocational area the student may choose in general secondary education.
Students have the flexibility to select the subjects they wish to attend.
However, they can only complete Level 8º Grau after fulfilling all the subjects outlined in the study plan.
