Ricardo Vilares has a Bachelor's Degree in Music History and Theory from the University of Évora and he has a Master's Degree in Musicology from the University of Aveiro. His dissertation was entitled “ Um sagrado enlevo: Moreira de Sá e o culto da música de câmara no Porto”.

He has been a guest assistant professor at the Northeast Piaget Institute and the University of Minho. He currently teaches History of Culture and the Arts – History of Music at the Porto Music Conservatory. He has also written programme notes and worked as a commentator at recitals and concerts, of note being “Um recital e uma obra de arte”, organised by CMSM and the Porto Municipal Council.
