José Gabriel Oliveira Teixeira is 25 years old and began his studies at Academia de Música de Castelo de Paiva (AMCP) in September 2009, at the age of 10, in the class of Bruno Costa. During his eight-year program, he worked individually with artists such as Jean-François Lézé, Rui Sul Gomes, Miquel Bernat, Philippe Spiesser, and the Pulsat Percussion Group, among others. He participated in the AMCP's internal Musical Olympics competition four times, receiving Honorable Mention and three first prizes. He also participated in the ADAMS International Percussion Festival in November 2016. In orchestras, he has worked with José Eduardo Gomes, Cesário Costa, Douglas Bostock, Baldur Brönnimann, Martin André Stefan Blunier, Nuno Coelho, Diogo Costa, and Peter Ründel, among others. He performed solo with the AMPC Wind Orchestra, Satoshi Yagisawa's Marimba Concerto, in March 2015.
In 2017, he enrolled in a music degree program in percussion at ESMAE (Education and Percussion Institute) in Porto, with professors Manuel Campos, Miquel Bernat, and Jeffrey Davies. During his undergraduate studies, he collaborated with the ESMAE Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, General Choir, and Jazz Choir.
He participated in the II Beira Interior International Percussion Competition in 2017, winning 3rd Prize in Category B; he also won second prize at the Gondomar International Percussion Competition in 2022. He is a member of the Exoduo group, along with accordionist Francisco Martins, where he won first prize at the Folefest competition in both 2022 and 2024. That same year, he won third prize at the Prémio Jovens Músicos in the Chamber Music category, advanced level.
He collaborated with the Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra in 2019 and 2024, and with the Remix Ensemble in 2020. He has also collaborated with the Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, the Portuguese Brass, the Con Spiritto Orchestra, and the Orquestra do Norte. He also participated in the Alto Minho Youth Orchestra's Summer Tour in September 2022.
As a choralist, he has also collaborated with the Porto Symphony Orchestra, the Remix Ensemble, and the Braga District Orchestra Choir.
He enrolled in a Master's in Music Education program at ESART in Castelo Branco in 2021, under professors Bruno Costa and André Dias.
He was part of the Beiras Philharmonic Orchestra's roster from 2019 to 2023 and has been part of the percussion roster for the Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra since 2022. In 2021, he taught at the Covilhã Music Conservatory as a substitute teacher.
In July 2021, he completed his Bachelor's degree in Music Education. In June 2024, he completed his Master's degree in Music Education. In March 2025, he held a percussion masterclass at the Academia de Música da Fortaleza de Valença.
He taught at the Castelo de Paiva Music Academy from 2022 to 2025. He currently teaches at the Academia de Música Costa Cabral and at the Curso de Música Silva e Monteiro. He occasionally collaborates with the Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa and with the Movimento Musical Cooperativo Orchestra.
