Rita Barbosa was born in Paredes de Coura in 1983.
She began her musical studies in the Valentim Moreira de Sá Music Academy in Guimarães in 2001, under Professor Ricardo Barceló. In 2006, she completed her eighth level in the guitar at the Calouste Gulbenkian Music Conservatory in Braga. The same year, she began her higher education in the classical guitar at the Salamanca Music Conservatory, where she studied under Hugo Geller and Dimitri van Halderen for two years.
In 2009, she attended her third year of her Classical Guitar course at the Vigo Music Conservatory, studying under Marguerita Escarpa, José Luis Fernandez and Román Gonzalez.
In 2011, she completed her Bachelor's Degree in music – Classical Guitar at the University of Minho in Braga, under the direction of Professor Ricardo Barceló. In 2012, she began her Master's Degree in Music Teaching at the same university.
Throughout her career, she has taken several workshops and masterclasses with a variety of guitarists in order to perfect her technique and her skills of interpretation. Of note among these were Eduardo Baranzano, Gerardo Arriaga, Ricardo Gallen, Eros Roselli, Manolo Sanlucar, Jorge Cardoso and Daniel Navarro.
In addition to her solo guitar recitals, she has taken part in a wide variety of projects as a guitarist. She worked with the theatre company - Comédias do Minho - as a creator and interpreter of the children's musical – “Pé de Vento”, which was presented in Vale do Minho and Lapa do Lobo in Viseu.
She has been teaching the Classical Guitar since 2007 and is now teaching at Curso de Música Silva Monteiro.
